Are these errors related to the kernel module (libafs) or other portions
of the code?

As long as you have the kernel source installed, everything should be
fine.  Make sure /usr/src/linux is a symlink to the source for the kernel
you are curently running (probably /usr/src/linux-2.4.9-31, or something
similar), and that you've done a "make dep" on the kernel source.

If your build errors are not libafs related, you'll have to be more
specific.
