locking someday?

Hi Norm,

This has been reported in the past and after some research, we determined
that it was due to a lack of byte-range locking with AFS.  This feature has
been investigated and discussed.  The effort would require significant
changes to the fileserver and some changes on the client side, which we are
unable to commit to. Byte range locking is supported via DFS. This is not a
feature that will be considered for a future release of AFS.
