We have used several different KDE versions (currently 2.2.1)
in combination with AFS home directories. Both Qt and KDE are
compiled from sources here so they can live in /usr/local structure
placed in replicated platform-dependant AFS volumes. There
were no problems with this setup, perhaps with the exception
of people browsing directories with limited rights (e.g., l only).
AFS for some reason really takes its time to communicate back
that file stats cannot be done (or returning all zeroes or NULLs
or some such thing).
Perhaps your home directory rights are insufficient for the user
or you are getting the token too late in the login process. Do
you use PAM?
