Connection problem with Windows 2000.
> I installed OpenAFS client for Windows NT on my Win2k laptop. The
> installation was fine but I am not able to start the client services.
When I
> try to start the client services I get the following error:
> "The AFS client could not be started successfully. You may not have
> authorization....error 0x00042a"
Please look into the following possibilities:
1. What does your event log say? Run
eventvwr.msc /s
Look at the Application log for any information about AFS.
2. What does afsd_init.log say?
%SystemRoot%\afsd_init.log
It should look something like the following:
(See attached file: afsd_init.log)
3. Is NETBIOS over TCP/IP working?
Run
nbtstat -n
You should see NetBIOS Local Name Table with your host name in it. (When
your client is working you will also see an entry for
"YourMachineName-AFS".
4. Have you set the LANA number?
Make sure that you never set the Lana Number:
With the latest patch of Win 2000 you shouldn't have to worry about
choosing the proper LANA # and I recommend you not doing it.
Once you choose a LANA number you either have to un-install AFS or remove
the registry entry :
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\TransarcAFSDaemon\LANadapter
5. Is your machine name correct?
Is your W2k computer's machine name <= 12 characters and unique
6. Are any of your Dll's corrupt?
Uninstall AFS, reboot, and install it again.
7. Do you have the Latest version - Current version is 1.1.1a?
Look at the AFS Client dialog box.
