Yup, for a while we had an eight-processor box for people to log on to and
read mail and news and the like, and found that we were getting pathetic
performance out of it in large part because pretty much everything people
were doing on it was touching AFS and the AFS client was basically
funneling everything through one request at a time.

Switched to a bunch of load-balanced single-processor machines.
Performance improved drastically.
