Hi Paul,
installed it yesterday by unpacking the source and then running
% ./configure --enable-transarc-paths
% make
% make dest
as mentioned in the README file. Then copied the resulting
<buildroot>/openafs-1.2.8/i386_linux24/dest directory tree to
/usr/openafs-1.2.8 and changed the symlink /usr/afsws ->
/usr/openafs-1.2.8. (Could have copied it directly into /usr/afsws as
well, of course.) Stopped AFS, replaced the stuff in /usr/vice/etc
(afsd, modules, etc.) with the newer versions and started AFS again.
That's the way I also did it on previous versions of SuSE and it works
fine for me.
I haven't tried the RedHat RPMs on SuSE so far, but they might work,
too. A while ago, I've ran IBM AFS - which was and is only supported for
RedHat - on SuSE (7.0 or 7.1, don't remember any more ...). This worked
if either the kernel versions matched or some workarounds helped, like
creating a symlink for the required kernel module.
Anyway, building it from source for SuSE is the cleanest way IMHO.
Regards,
Markus
