I have to bow to you AFS admins, as I'm not quite there yet. I have the
dead tree book, managing afs (the book that 1998 wants back!) and I'm
about half way through, so still have lots to learn.
Anyway, this constantly refers to backup servers, which is probably
where my confusion stems.
As you have outlined the replication is not at the volume level, so I
guess the only way to do this is to change the sate of a readonly to rw.
