this is what rpm -ql reports.

[root@newjupiter MODLOAD-2.6.12-1.1381_FC3-SP]# rpm -ql openafs-kernel
/lib/modules/2.6.12-1.1378_FC3/kernel/fs/openafs/openafs.ko

So I made sure I have a copy of openafs.ko in both :
/lib/modules/2.6.12-1.1378_FC3/kernel/fs/openafs    and
/lib/modules/2.6.12-1.1381_FC3/kernel/fs/openafs

it still says that it failed to load the openafs module "module openafs not
found
