Use gigabit network, disable crypt security for data transfers (as you
got local network anyway).
Use better systems ;-) (e.g. sending from linux system from harddrive to
OpenAFS server tells me roughly 30 MB/sec, with a 800 MB file in memory
I get rates of 70-80 MB/sec.).
