you can, of course, bos getlog a syslog file. for that matter, if you
strip the niceties that
bos getlog prepends, you can bos getlog an executable, a compressed
file, pretty
much whatever you want, and then act on it locally.

i have in a pinch used bos install, bos getlog and bos exec to recover
an unhappy machine
that i could not log into.
