the way things worked in the 1.2 series was that we stopped updating
after we had a critical mass of 1.4 uptake.
with a relatively small pool of volunteers to do builds, it may well
be feasible to continue doing (source only) releases
longer than we can reasonably provide binaries for those builds but
i'd expect we'll keep providing 1.4 until sites feel
they are comfortable with 1.6, and then make at least security fixes
available for 1.4
