Yes, this bug was in the kernel module; you'll need to recompile that.

I'm not clear on when you pulled from git; if you want to check, this
specific bug should have been fixed with commit
753d3380f30f7277b88365fe1994072ae75a8be7.

If recompiling the kernel module doesn't fix it, it would help if you
could point us to the gentoo init script, so we check what it's doing.
