You still seem to be laboring under the (incorrect) idea that DFS is the
result of taking AFS3 and slapping a DCE RPC interface on it.  That is not
the case -- AFS4 was redesigned _from the ground up_ using concepts and
techniques developed for AFS3.  Pretty much everything is different.  If
you slap a DCE RPC interface on AFS3, the result will still differ from
AFS4 in every way except the RPC protocol being used.  Of course, the
actual interfaces would still be different, so you still haven't gained
much.


If you want to try to come up with an AFS3 variant that does DCE RPC
instead of Rx, feel free.  Just don't expect the people on this list to be
terribly interested in helping -- any of us that have time for working on
OpenAFS are already spending it on things like adding features, fixing
bugs, or porting to new platforms.
