On WinNT/2k the AFS service is implemented as an SMB loopback server. The
netbios name of the loopback server gets advertised and registered on the
network and must be unique.

MIT has done some work on using the \\AFS UNC name. The changes rely on
installing the Microsoft loopback adapter and binding the AFS name to it.
These should make it into the OpenAFS tree at some point. At the moment
these changes do not appear to work well under XP.
