Thank you for doing this.

I doubt anyone will look at the diff until you have one against current
sources.

My only comment so far is that I would like to see your process.s.S390x file
renamed to process.S390x.s.  Then fix the Makefile.in to assemble that file.
Use i386 as an example, not hpux.  The reason for this is that process.s has
gotten too ugly, and we'd like to have separate files for each arch type.
