I have submitted a defect to the AFS bug tracker for this issue. The kswapd -> afs_linux_writepage() -> ... code path has a serious design flaw -- it easily creates deadlock situations in conjunction with AFS kernel code that holds AFS locks and then allocates memory. -- Joe Buehler
