The main issue here seems to be "what should we change", and that 
boils down to "what are the defaults now". I know that I'm not 
qualified to answer any of those questions, but if people are more 
likely to speak up if I start to ramble incoherently guessing what 
should be changed and what should be left please tell me so and I'll 
try to throw together something that we can have a flamewar about ;)

Hacking up a patch shouldn't take too many minutes since it's mostly 
about changing existing defaults...
