The jafs existing in 1.4.0 won't compile, that's deprecated.
You should to use the jafs existing in openafs-1.4.1.
If you are sticking to the version 1.4.0, you have to move the src/JAVA directory from 1.4.1 into openafs-1.4.0/src after deleting openafs-1.4.0/src/JAVA.
That should compile without any problem.
