* vol-bless gerrit topic merged to 1.8.x branch
* macOS Big Sur changes pulled up for 1.8.x
* two of those changes -2, but please don't let that keep you
  from reviewing the stack.

Discussed:

  a4e9365 FBSD: Remove support for 8.x and 9.x

Patches to remove FreeBSD support for obsolete versions 8 and 9 need to be
merged to make way for other patches. FreeBSD 9 was EOLd in 2016.
