I tried the 1.1.1a download (as Derrick pointed out, it has NOT been
released yet) and it was working fine. What error were you seeing when you
run the installable?

As to your 1.0.4a uninstallation problem, it is a known problem related to
the earlier 1.0.4a client. See note 2 below (from James Peterson's
aspirin saver post on the list) for the recovery procedure. This problem
should have been fixed in the newer Install.exe that went into 1.0.4a.

==================== excerpts from James Peterson's note
=============================
There seems to be a problem with NetBios over TCP/IP and Un-Install AFS.

1. With the latest patch of Win 2000 you shouldn't have to worry about
choosing the proper LANA # and I recommend you not doing it. Once you
choose a LANA number you either have to un-install AFS or remove the
registry entry :
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\TransarcAFSDaemon\LANadapter

2. NetBEUI, NetBios and AFS - Usually installing NetBEUI works well with
AFS Win2k. However, it seems the un-installation of AFS does damage to
NetBios over TCP/IP. So if you don't want to install NetBEUI you need be
careful. As yet, the only solution is:

   Remove AFS (via Install/Remove Programs)
Remove all network services and clients
   Remove TCP/IP protocol
   Reboot Win 2000
Install network services, clients, and TCP/IP
   Install AFS
   Reboot

You can test the health of NetBios over TCP/IP by either doing nbtstat -n
or ipconfig -all.

You can still install NetBEUI after all this if you want. For example, if
you can't get SAMBA shares to work.

Subject: [OpenAFS] AFS for Windows

Problems (under W2000Pro)

1) AFSforWindowsNT.exe (in
http://www.openafs.org/dl/openafs/1.1.1a/winnt/) is corrupted! when
running, it fails unpacking

2) AFS client 1.0.4a for NT, if uninstalled, can not be reinstalled: any
attempts at rerunning it fails saying ' The AFS client could not be
started successfully You may not have authorization' and 'error
0x00042a' (login as Administrator, everything else unchanged with
respect to first installation that 'almost worked -see next note-;
uninstall/reinstall attempted many times with varying degrees of
intervening reboots)
2.bis) uninstall does not clean up the registry

3) AFS client 1.0.4a for NT 'almost always' fails getting tokens with
'unknown error 0x37' (before uninstalling/reinstalling, of course)

Anyone knows anything?
