[OpenAFS] No Authorization Error on Win2000

Ok.... That was sheer ignorance on my part. I really need to watch what I'm typing. I named my Win2k machine "afs-srv1"=
instead of "afs-srv2". Thanks to all who tried to fix my non-existant problem. Sorry, Sorry, Sorry. The client is now=
 working beautifully.

And now.... when I try to configure the server, I am getting the client\server imcompatible version issue. Any ideas on =
this one?

Thanks,

Scott

Why is the Computer name of the Win2000 "AFS-SRV1" when the same name is
used by your AFS server running on FreeBSD? You may want to straigten out
the network identification of the machine in "Control Pannel - Network and
Dial-up Connections - Network Identification".

So you have only "Information" log entries from AFS but not "Error" ones
through the event viewer?

To help isolate the problem, maybe it's better you uninstall the server
from Win2K and see if the client would work first.

Here is what appeared in the log...... The server listed (AFS-SRV1) is my
AFS server running on FreeBSD. The name of this system is AFS-SRV2.

Date: 8/27/2001
Time: 12:27
Source: AFS Client
Category: None
Type: Information
Event ID: 0
User: N/A
Computer: AFS-SRV1

The description for Event ID ( 0 ) in Source ( AFS Client ) cannot be
found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information
or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. The
following information is part of the event: AFS start pending.

Can you take a look at the Application Log under "Control Pannel -
Admistrative Tools - Event Viewer" to see what AFS client error message(s)
you might have there?

The cache is in the default location (c:\AFSCache). I checked the
permissions on the file and it had full control for administrator. I added
system and gave it full control. The parent directory (c:\) has full
control for everyone. I got the same error when I attempted to start the
client.

I'm not sure if this make a difference or not, but I just tried to
configure the AFS server and got the error message that the client version
is not compatible with the server. Does the client service need to be
running before the server service?

Thanks,

Scott

Does the System account have rights to write to the cache location? If
System doesn't have rights, the AFSCache file won't get created and the
service will fail to start with the 42A error.
