There is a signal you can send to your file/volserver procs to dump a
pile of info to a couple of trace files about active connections. If you
ran this periodically, you could probably get some details about who's
accessing the volumes. 

I don't remember exactly what they are, have a look at SetupSignal's
routines in the source, or check the -devel archive, cause I remember
posting something about it a few months back.
