You definitely don't want to use AFS's ftpd.  It probably contains many
buffer overflow vunerabilities, and uses a very insecure token passing
protocol.

Just use wu-ftpd, but modify your PAM configuration to support AFS.
There should be MANY posts in the archive with instructions for
configuring PAM, and it's probabily in the AFS Wiki.
