Hi there,
I'm currently trying to help someone to get AFS running. He uses a
pre-built RPM for SuSE Linux 8.0 which has been reported to work
elsewhere.

We compiled a vanilla 2.4.17 kernel but could not start AFS:

----- Forwarded message from Carlos Oliveira <carlos.o@vizzavi.pt> -----

[...]

/etc/rc.d/afs start
Starting AFS services.....
afsd: No check server daemon in client.
afsd: All AFS daemons started.
afsd: Can't mount AFS on /afs(19)

----- End forwarded message -----

I have no idea what could have caused this! I'll tell him to recompile
the RPM himself, maybe there is something broken but I doubt that.

Any hints?

Bye, Tino.
