[OpenAFS] Help - Failed to load AFS client

Looks to me like you've tried to start the client 4 times. There should
only be one '[afs_checkserver]' instance listed.
I'd suggest rebooting, and then not doing anything, and see if the
client is running.
In general, there is no reason to start/stop afs, just leave it running
all the time after boot.
