In the past, I've always just tar.gz'd up /usr/afs/db/* to somewhere
within AFS space before doing my daily backups.

Of course, that doesn't provide you with the ability to do selective
restores of just certain records.  I bet it wouldn't be too difficult to
write a utility to parse the .DB0 files and allow you to move certain
records around when AFS is offline.
