That's a good suggestion, thanks, but I think I have bigger problems. 
The first batch of errors from assembling come from lines 
conditionalized by RIOS, which is *only* defined in some aix files. 
In fact it looks as though just about every possible define has been 
defined in that file.

Clearly I need to spend some time studying that whole parameter 
definition business.
