[OpenAFS] afs-client on read-only filesystem

I wan't to get openafs working from a bootable CD (that is: modify
Knoppix...). I've got everything working when I've booted with the
Knoppix-CD and chroot into my "working copy", but when I try to boot
from my version openafs panics and I can't get tickets from my kdc.

Any ideas?
