[OpenAFS] (no subject)

I am trying to install openafs 1.2.8 on redhat8
(2.4.18-14).I am installed it from the rpm file for
rh8 from the main site.  I followed the instructions
in the 'Quick' guide.When I reboot the system 
afs starts and then this is what I get

etc/rc3.d/S60afs:line 305: 836 Segmentation Fault
/usr/vice/etc/afsd ${AFSD_OPTIONS}
then a whole bunch of 
Sscall(137,28,48)=0

help!
