Sorry for the delayed response -- I couldn't actually find an rpm with
the SuSE-257 source, only a built kernel at that level.  Perhaps I
don't understand the SuSE kernel numbering system.  I tried building
with both the out of the box versions of -82 for source and -113 for
binary, and also -175 source and -257 binary (closest I could find),
and both produced the same crash when starting afsd.

I'm continuing to investigate, and will post here if I find anything.
