[OpenAFS] 1.2.13 on Solaris 9 x86

I have been trying (unsucessfully) to build a usable 1.2.13 on Solaris 9 
x86.

I ./configure --enable-transarc-paths --enable-fast-restarts

make
make dest

The build completes without errors.

The client seems to work, but various server processes (vl, pt, etc) 
dump core.

I'm using a 60-day trial version of sun studio tools:
% cc -V
cc: Sun C 5.6 2004/07/15
% ld -V
ld: Software Generation Utilities - Solaris Link Editors: 5.9-1.381

Anyone have any pointers or debugging tips?  Or better yet, a working 
Solaris 9 x86 1.2.13 build?

There was nothing of value in the logs and truss showed nothing that was 
directly traceable to a problem.
