The problem we are seeing with Symantec 9 is probably a Cygwin issue caused by Symantec -- socket() creation is slowed by Symantec 9 for some reason and Cygwin's select() algorithm calls socket() for every select(). A fix was checked in to Cygwin that supposedly corrects this behavior. See the Cygwin X list for the details. -- Joe Buehler
