[OpenAFS] openafs problems on Debian Sarge

I'm having identical problems setting up an AFS server as you did, down to 
the last detail, as described in the thread on the Openafs mailing list,

I'm writing to ask if you managed to get past your difficulty.

I managed to get a bit further by adding

"-cmd /usr/lib/openafs/vlserver"

in the appropriate place in the afs-newcell script.

Then I get

vos create riverside a root.afs -localauth
Could not fetch the list of partitions from the server
Possible communication failure
Possible communication failure
Failed: 65280
bos shutdown riverside -localauth
bos delete riverside fs -localauth
bos delete riverside vlserver -localauth
bos delete riverside ptserver -localauth
rm /var/lib/openafs/db/prdb*

But then I'm stuck...                                       Faheem.
