With couple last release of openafs (1.2.13, 1.3.84)
The slocate process could cause the following kernel failures:

- in both cases if /afs included in or not included in updatedb.conf
- I saw discussions of same type problems in inet
- that's not an issue of bad RAM modules or other hardware
