Indeed, the 1.4.0 release doesn't work in 64 bit mode even when
clearing the cache.

For the purpose of the test, the options passed to "afsd" are:
 "-stat 2000 -dcache 800 -daemons 3 -volumes 70 -nosettime"
(the "MEDIUM" configuration in the "afs.rc" for Solaris.)

But as Kris Kasner pointed out, the problem also occurs with other
options.
