That is the $10M question, which people have been studying for years 
without an adequate answer.  There are just too many variables, and when 
each component is tested separately, none can satisfactorily explain the 
slowness of the combined operation.

Perhaps the Universe will implode upon itself and be replaced by something 
even more bizarre and inexplicable.
