The "not critical" judgment is a bit too easy: we ran into crashes on 
our general access cluster with the kernel claiming that it couldn't 
allocate 12K. Luckily I remembered Hartmut's patch when I saw the 
first traceback but it took another round of rpm installs and reboots. 
And I believe he posted it on the timescale of 1.4.1-rc1...
