Hi Ted,
I tried that and on the 2nd server I got:

[root@afs2 ~]# /usr/afsws/bin/udebug afs1.ben.muveenet 7002
Host's addresses are: 192.168.81.67
Host's 192.168.81.67 time is Wed Apr 4 10:45:09 2007
Local time is Wed Apr 4 10:44:57 2007 (time differential -12 secs)
****clock may be bad
Last yes vote for 67.81.168.192 was 0 secs ago (sync site);
Last vote started 0 secs ago (at Wed Apr 4 10:44:57 2007)
Local db version is 1174999273.2
I am sync site forever (1 server)
Recovery state 1f
Sync site's db version is 1174999273.2
0 locked pages, 0 of them for write

but on 1st server I got:

[root@afs1 ~]# /usr/afsws/bin/udebug afs2.ben.muveenet 7002
return code -1 from VOTE_Debug

Does this mean my 2nd server can talk to the 1st server but my 1st
server can't talk to my 2nd server?
Did I miss anything? Appreciate all the help. Many thanks.

Melvin

I use:
Udebug afs1.ben.muveenet 7002
Udebug afs2.ben.muveenet 7002
To see if the servers are talking to each other.

Hi Jeff,
ok I understand now. I have some problem understanding what the openafs
documentation really wants for installing database server functionality
for the 2nd server. It says:=20

Issue the bos addhost command to add the new database server machine to
the /usr/afs/etc/CellServDB file on existing server machines (as well as
the new database server machine itself).

Substitute the new database server machine's fully-qualified hostname
for the host name argument. If you run a system control machine,
substitute its fully-qualified hostname for the machine name argument.
If you do not run a system control machine, repeat the bos addhost
command once for each server machine in your cell (including the new
database server machine itself), by substituting each one's
fully-qualified hostname for the machine name argument in turn.

  =20
   % bos addhost <machine name> <host name> =20

If you run a system control machine, wait for the Update Server to
distribute the new CellServDB file, which takes up to five minutes by
default. If you are issuing individual bos addhost commands, attempt to
issue all of them within five minutes.

I tried "bos addhost afs2.ben.muveenet afs2.ben.muveenet -localauth" on
the 2nd afs server and bos listhosts show:
bos listhosts afs2
bos: a pioctl failed (getting tickets)
bos: running unauthenticated
Cell name is ben.muveenet
    Host 1 is afs1.ben.muveenet
    Host 2 is afs2.ben.muveenet
Do I need to issue the command on the 1st afs server. I tried the same
command on the 1st server but listhosts never reflect the 2nd afs
server. Did I miss out anything?

Thank you.

Regards,
melvin

That is why you cannot use that server to obtain tokens.
