It works correctly on Solaris8 (OpenAFS-1.2.11)
The problem is exhibited on two different linux systems (RHEL 
AS4/OpenAFS-1.5.8 and Andrew FC3/1.3?) and a Solaris10 system 
(OpenAFS-1.4.1).

My AFS servers are RHEL WS3 systems running OpenAFS-1.4.4.
