Start with the backport to whatever version of Debian was closest but
earlier than the release of Ubuntu you want to build for.  That will
generally work.

You may now be out of luck on dapper, although I suspect that the
etch-backports version of openafs will build on dapper with at worst minor
fiddling.  (Unless dapper has a 2.4 kernel, in which case you need a patch
that will be in 1.4 stable once we have a pull-up procedure.)
