Wouldn't most organizations disable these defaults via a global GPO?=A0=0A=

=0A=
Last Wednesday Microsoft released the one and only preview release of=0A=
Windows 8.1 in conjunction with the Microsoft Build conference which I=0A=
attended.=A0 The one big change relating to file systems is the=0A=
integration of SkyDrive into the Shell and its selection as the primary=0A=
storage location for end user documents.=0A=
=0A=
The SkyDrive integration adds shell recognition for files that are=0A=
located in the locally sync'd copy of the SkyDrive directory tree but=0A=
which have not been copied locally.=A0=A0 Microsoft now represents these=0A=
files with a new Reparse Point (Tag: 0x80000015) which is a "sparse=0A=
file" and an "offline" file.=A0 The file will not be visible to=0A=
applications that browse the directory from the command line but will be=0A=
displayed in the Explorer Shell and Modern application views of the=0A=
SkyDrive directory.=0A=
=0A=
The SkyDrive folder tree is stored in the user's profile at=0A=
\Users\<username>\SkyDrive.=A0=A0 When the profile is on NTFS this works=0A=
fine.=A0 When the roaming profile is stored in AFS this is going to cause=
=0A=
problems because at logout an error will be generated when attempts are=0A=
made to copy this new reparse point to AFS.=0A=
=0A=
I urge organizations to begin testing Windows 8.1 Preview immediately=0A=
and to file bug reports with Microsoft as soon as possible.=A0 This is a=0A=
feature that will not be altered once Windows 8.1 RTM is cut.=A0=A0 It is=
=0A=
critical that Microsoft hear about issues that will effect their=0A=
customers while there is time to make adjustments.=0A=
