You can build a SRPM from the git repository (see
http://wiki.openafs.org/HowToBuildOpenAfsRpmPackages/ ).
Perhaps the downloadable source RPMs need to be built with md5 checksums?
In EPEL 6 and Fedora, there's a 'fedora-packager' package, which has an
'rpmbuild-md5' executable, which will build the src.rpm with md5 checksums,
which can be built on older RHEL5 systems. RHEL6 and Fedora systems can
build source RPMs with the older hash.
