Since you're running on Ubuntu (if I remember correctly from the
original email), you might be interested in the Debian packaging of
1.8.0pre1

or the prebuilt binaries from Debian experimental that might be
compatible with that version of Ubuntu
(http://ftp.debian.org/debian/pool/main/o/openafs/ the .deb files
with version 1.8.0~pre1-5).
