I tested OpenAFS 11 (and 10a) extensively on the following hardare=20
running Mac OS X 10.3.x Panther with very simlar kernel panics:
(1) Power Mac G4 867 - 768M RAM
(2) Power Mac G4 733 - 256M RAM
I've tried the configuration with AFS cache set at 30000 (default),=20
300000, and 1000000 with nearly identical results. I also tried it=20
with 10.3.0, 10.3.1, and 10.3.2 with little affect. The Apple Mail Tool=20=
and Browsers (Safari, Explorer) seems to be the quickest to cause the=20=
panic. But general use with any Carbon/Cocoa apps cause it to crash=20
eventually. This is is definitely causing issues with testing Mac OS X=20=
as a future desktop in our higer education environment. We currently=20
have a mixture of Solaris 9 and WindowsXP workstations (over 1000=20
total) with user home directories and the majority of technical=20
applications residing on AFS file space.
Note: My experience with 10.2.x Jaguar was overall positive with no=20
crashes. However the general performance didn't seem as good as 10.3.x=20=
when its not crashing.
