I now have a partially working client, but it *does not* work at all with=20
afs home directories.
ls, cat,cp all seem fine for most casual use.
running executables out of afs works, even if another client was=20
responsible for putting the data there.
authenticated access works.
bonnie++ -s runs correctly, but bonnie++ -n does not (it hangs sometimes).
ls sometimes misses some directory entries, but It does not seem to be a=20
cache consistency issue.
Things that are missing:
- sysctl support, so afssettings doesn't work
- mounting afs more than once. The old implementation of this (which I was=20
not responsible for) did bad things that just don't work under the KPI=20
restrictions.
- bulkstatus, a mechanism used to reduce latency of ls -l (it prefetches=20
status information for multiple files during readdir calls, which means=20
that the later stat() calls do not require a round trip each).
Things I don't understand:
putting ~/Library in afs just doesn't work. ATSServer and/or Finder +=20
Dock.app spin unresponsively when a user whose Library is in afs logs in.=20
They are not blocked inside afs, as they can be killed with signals.
The source for this is in the openafs-1_3_82-macos-10_4 branch of the=20
openafs.org cvs. At present, it requires a 40k patch=20
(/afs/andrew.cmu.edu/usr18/cg2v/openafs-1.3.82-darwin8-progress-20050627.dif=

but the patch is scheduled for inclusion on the branch.
I do not currently have packaged binaries, but I can probably produce some=20
if people are interested.
