[OpenAFS-port-darwin] problem opening disk image files with Tiger & 1.4.2rc2

I've not been using OpenAFS for a while, so I can't tell if this is 
new behavior.  I tried to open a moderately large (~100Meg) disk 
image file residing on our AFS servers and the Finder spun the pizza 
of death.  I went and had lunch (about a hour) in case this was just 
a very long operation, but it was still unresponsive after that time 
and had to give my laptop the three finger salute (power-off restart)
