I'm not sure what you mean. What's the "default api"?

Both are defined in /Library/OpenAFS/Tools/include/afs/kautils.h, as a=20
quick grep -r shows. So you'll have to

#include "afs/kautils.h"

and compile with -I/Library/OpenAFS/Tools/include
