FreeBSD 8.4 will have security support until June 30 of next year. I
think a reasonable policy for any third-party developer like OpenAFS
would be to continue support for perhaps a year after that, to allow
users some time to finish migration. If a user is unable to upgrade
past 8.4 for some reason, it's pretty unlikely (although possible)
that the user would be able to upgrade OpenAFS, but I suggest that
support should remain for the lifetime of whichever OpenAFS stable
branch is current on 2015-06-30.
