Hi,
This is a note i originally send to the ibm-linux-tech mailing list, but
it may also belong in your mailing list (of which i am not a member).
The key paragraph is
I first tried the rpm's from openafs.org, mentioned in this mailing list,
but i had problems.
At least one of the problems was when the /etc/rc.d/init.d/afs script
tries to determine which module to load it came up with
/usr/vice/etc/modload/libafs-2.4.2-2.o (i think...), which could not
be inserted. I manually changed this to libafs-2.4.2-i686.o (the key being
the i686), which did at least load. However, after this problem, the
openafs rpm still did not work, (i can't remember why), so i resorted
to another solution.
The entire mail appears below.
Thanks,
Steve Eichblatt

Have you run this by the openAFS people ? The reason I'm asking, is that
they are trying to fix the problems with RedHat7.1 and AFS, at least with
the SMP kernels.

Subject: [ibm-linux-tech] AFS on a netVista running RedHat 7.1
Hi All,
I have a netVista machine running redHat 7.1 and I managed to get AFS
working. Since my
solution was different from what i had found in this mailing list so far i
thought i should describe
it, in case someone else has similar problems.
I first tried the rpm's from openafs.org, mentioned in this mailing list,
but i had problems.
At least one of the problems was when the /etc/rc.d/init.d/afs script tries
to determine which
module to load it came up with /usr/vice/etc/modload/libafs-2.4.2-2.o (i
think...), which could not
be inserted. I manually changed this to libafs-2.4.2-i686.o (the key being
the i686), which
did at least load.
However, after this problem, the openafs rpm still did not work, (i can't
remember why),
so i resorted to another solution.
I kept a copy of the libafs-2.4.2-i686.o file and erased all the openafs
rpms.
Then i ran the "afs_quill" script. I have an old copy, but new ones are
available from
http://afs-linux-fs1.raleigh.ibm.com/afs/linux/web/news_afs_install.html
My script did not work right away, because it lacked an up-to-date libafs
module, so i
made a symbolic link in /usr/vice/etc/modload/libafs-2.4.2-2.o ->
libafs-2.4.2-i686.o by hand,
and then everything worked fine.
