[OpenAFS] OAFS 1.2.2 on RH7.2/2.4.9-7

I ran into the following problem with a stock RH 7.2/2.4.9-7 which
indeed resembles the case mentioned today by Amy Tanner: 

   -   on i686 everything works just fine with both ext3 and ext2.

   -   on i586, whatever I try to execute off AFS ends up in a seg fault
       with kernel problems (see the cutout below). When the binary is
       first copied from AFS to local disk, and then executed from there,
       it perfectly works. Please note that it happens only on *i586*,
       with a stock 2.4.9-7 .i586 kernel from RedHat.

Any ideas? I could try the vanilla 2.4.9 from kernel.org, but it is not
what we want in the end... Amy, what was your box?

     If someone may wish to give it a try:

     ftp://ftp.caspur.it/pub/afs/afsclient-CASPUR-open72a.i386.rpm  or
     /afs/caspur.it/project/openafs/afsclient-CASPUR-open72a.i386.rpm

     The RPM was built for RH72/2.4.9-7 (i586 and i686). A short help is
     available with: "rpm -qip afsclient-CASPUR-open72a.i386.rpm". 
     On 686/UP, it seemingly does the job. SMP was not yet tried.
